The BARF diet

Pets should be fed just enough to maintain their optimal body weight and condition.

DAILY RATIONS FOR ADULT DOGS
WEIGHT OF PET WEIGHT OF FOOD
KILOGRAMS POUNDS GRAMS OUNCES
1-5 2-11 90-350 3-12
5-10 11-22 350-600 12-21

25-50 55-110 1100-2000 39-70
Based on Billinghurst, 2001, p. 86.

Weight per weight, small pets and small breeds need more food.

HOW MUCH FOOD?

Portions should be based on:

    General condition
Ribs should not be visible and pets should be free of super-
fluous fat. Owners should check for this when fondling their pets. Fat pets should be fed less, underweight ones more.
    Size
In relation to their size, young, small pets and small breeds need larger and more frequent meals.
    Age
Young, growing pets need more food than adult or elderly ones.
    Activity level
Highly active pets need more food than inactive ones.
